"Amoses" without voice or fire
One of the readings for last Sunday was taken from the book of Amos. The prophet Amos needs no introduction. He was a fierce social critic of all forms of injustice and misrule. He was not one to equivocate. He was the speaker and voice of the poor, the oppressed and all who were victims of all forms of mis-governance. In the times of Amos, the poor were sold for less than the price of a pair of sandals. Amos condemned this. The poor in today's Nigeria are sold for far less. Yet you hear no strong voices of our modern day shepherds, these pastors who are supposed to be successors of Amos. Our modern day Amoses have lost their voices and their fire. By their strategic silence and deliberate equivocation, our modern day Amoses are progressively becoming complicit in the suffering of their flock, and that is a big pity.

Buhari Fiddles While Nigeria is on Fire
A word is enough for the wise.
Let the hard of hearing ignore at their own peril.

June 24, 2016 - Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist - Mass during the Day
John the Baptist was loud
He spoke clear
He condemned wrong doers in his society.
His voice never dimmed.
His passion for the right burned like a bright flame
which showed up the evil in the society of his time.
So great was his passion for the right
that it made him lose his head.
Today, we witness the dimming of voices
We witness the slowing, stilling and slurring of tongues
KorrektSpeek and political correctness are on the rise....
where have all the John the Baptists gone?

Blankness
blankness stared back at you
full of emptiness
In that sterile void
buoyed by frayed hope moon color
you looked and beheld
Dope float like dead weight
Hope heavy as feather spots,
skip heart beats
